What Is the IBPS Clerk Syllabus 2026?

IBPS Clerk Syllabus 2026: CSA Prelims, Mains, Subject-Wise Topics and Exam Pattern

IBPS Clerk is the popular search name used by students, while the official recruitment post is now called Customer Service Associate or CSA.

Popular Student Search Name IBPS Clerk
Official Recruitment Name Customer Service Associate

The syllabus checks English comprehension, numerical ability, reasoning, banking and financial awareness, current affairs and general aptitude required for customer-facing clerical work in participating public sector banks.

Prelims is mainly a speed and accuracy test. Mains is the main scoring examination and needs stronger preparation because it combines high-value Reasoning and Quant questions with English and General or Financial Awareness.

The official notification publishes the examination sections, number of questions, maximum marks and sectional timing. It does not provide an exhaustive chapter-by-chapter list of every possible question. The subject-wise lists in this article work as a practical preparation checklist based on the notified sections and standard bank-exam question areas.

Important IBPS Clerk Mains Pattern Change for 2026

CRP CSA-XVI Update

The official 2026 Mains table contains 40 Quantitative Aptitude questions and gives the section 35 minutes. The complete paper contains 160 questions and lasts 125 minutes.

Students should avoid using old Mains tables showing 155 questions and 120 minutes.

Latest Total Questions 160 Official CSA-XVI
Latest Total Duration 125 Minutes Separately timed
Quant Questions 40 35 minutes
Computer Aptitude clarification: The CRP CSA-XVI official Mains table names the section Reasoning Ability. It does not show Computer Aptitude as a separately named examination section. Do not present an old Reasoning and Computer Aptitude title as the latest official table.

IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

Prelims contains three sections. Each section has its own 20-minute timer, so unused time cannot be moved to another section.

Prelims Section Questions Maximum Marks Sectional Time
English Language 30 30 20 minutes
Numerical Ability 35 35 20 minutes
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 minutes
Total 100 100 60 minutes

Use the IBPS Clerk Prelims preparation guide for free English, Quant, Reasoning, PYQ and mock-test resources.

IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern 2026

IBPS Clerk Negative Marking 2026

1/4 Of the marks assigned to the question

Penalty Applies in Prelims and Mains

If a candidate gives a wrong answer to an objective question, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted to calculate the corrected score.

A question left unanswered does not receive a penalty. Random guessing can therefore reduce the net score.

Important for Mains: Do not assume that every wrong answer always deducts exactly 0.25 marks. The official rule is one-fourth of the marks assigned to that particular question.

IBPS Clerk Subject-Wise Syllabus 2026

Use the following topic files as a practical preparation checklist. Begin with core Prelims topics, then move to longer and more analytical Mains-level questions.

Subject File 03

Numerical Ability and Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

General and Financial Awareness Syllabus

Current affairs, banking awareness, RBI and finance

Banking Regulation
Digital Banking
UPI and Payment Systems

Use the IBPS Clerk Current Affairs and Banking Awareness guide for daily, monthly and banking-focused resources.

Supporting Knowledge File

Digital Banking and Computer Support Topics

Useful knowledge for banking awareness and future job readiness

Not a Separate Official Section

The latest official Mains table does not name a separate Computer Aptitude section. However, basic digital banking, payment-security and computer awareness can support Financial Awareness preparation and practical banking understanding.

Computer Fundamentals
Hardware and Software
Operating Systems
Internet Basics
Computer Networks
Database Basics
MS Office Basics
Cyber Security
Phishing and Malware
Digital Payment Security
Mobile Banking
Cloud Computing Basics
Prepare these as supportive concepts. Do not claim that Computer Aptitude is a separately notified 2026 Mains section.

IBPS Clerk Local Language Proficiency Test

Local Language Requirement

State or Union Territory selection is connected with the local-language condition mentioned in the notification.

Candidates should be proficient in the specified or opted local language for the State or Union Territory for which they apply. A participating bank may conduct a Local Language Proficiency Test where applicable.

Document Proof A Class 10 or higher mark sheet or certificate showing that the language was studied can provide the required evidence.
LLPT Requirement Candidates who cannot produce acceptable language-study proof may need to qualify the language test.
Appointment Impact Failure to meet the specified language condition can affect eligibility for appointment in the allotted State or bank.
Choose the State carefully. Do not select a State only because its previous cutoff looked low. Check the notified language and apply only when you can satisfy the language requirement.

IBPS Clerk Final Merit Rule

Mains Score Main score used for final merit and provisional allotment
Qualifying Documents and LLPT where applicable
Prelims marks are not added to final merit. Prelims is used for shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination. Final allotment depends on Mains performance and fulfilment of the applicable eligibility and verification conditions.

Three-Cycle IBPS Clerk Syllabus Completion Plan

Do not complete subjects one by one and leave revision for the end. Use three repeated preparation cycles so that concepts, speed and Mains subjects improve together.

Foundation Cycle

Complete calculation basics, grammar rules, easy Reasoning, arithmetic fundamentals and daily current affairs. Solve questions immediately after each concept.

Speed and Depth Cycle

Add puzzles, Reading Comprehension, arithmetic application, Data Interpretation, Banking Awareness and timed sectional tests.

Exam Simulation Cycle

Attempt full Prelims and Mains mocks, analyse errors, revise awareness notes and practise with the exact official sectional timing.

Practical Daily Study Dashboard

Daily Command Schedule
50 Minutes Quant and calculation
50 Minutes Reasoning and puzzles
40 Minutes English and reading
35 Minutes Current affairs and banking
30 Minutes Test analysis or revision

For a detailed timetable, use the IBPS Clerk 90-day study plan . Students preparing independently can also follow the IBPS Clerk preparation guide without coaching .

How to Use Mock Tests and Previous Papers

Preparation Stage Test Type Main Purpose Student Action
Foundation Topic-wise quizzes Check basic concept clarity Revise every wrong concept immediately
After basic syllabus Sectional tests Build speed within official sectional timing Record accuracy and slow topics
Middle preparation Previous-year papers Understand common exam-level question styles Classify easy, moderate and difficult questions
Final preparation Full mock tests Build question selection and exam temperament Spend proper time analysing every test

Follow the IBPS Clerk mock-test analysis guide to improve accuracy and question selection. Use the IBPS Clerk previous-year paper strategy to use PYQs as a preparation tool rather than solving them only once.

Useful IBPS Clerk Preparation Resources

Follow each page only when it matches your current preparation need. Limited sources with repeated practice work better than collecting many playlists.

Calling Computer Aptitude a separately notified CSA-XVI section.
Preparing only Prelims until the result is declared.
Ignoring General and Financial Awareness during early preparation.
Starting long DI sets before improving calculation and arithmetic.
Watching puzzle solutions without solving sets independently.
Treating English as a grammar-only subject.
Ignoring sectional cutoffs and separately timed sections.
Assuming every wrong Mains answer deducts exactly 0.25 marks.
Giving mock tests without analysing wrong and slow questions.
Selecting a State without checking its local-language condition.
Believing Prelims marks are added to final merit.
Expecting a personal interview in the normal CSA selection process.
