Prelims
Mains
IBPS PO English Language Syllabus
Prelims basics, Mains reading skills and descriptive support
English becomes difficult when students depend only on grammar rules. IBPS PO also tests reading speed, contextual vocabulary, sentence structure and the ability to understand unfamiliar passages.
Read one short editorial, solve one passage and practise a small grammar set daily. Note new words with sentence-based meaning instead of memorising long vocabulary lists.
Use the Banking English YouTube preparation guide for grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary and Mains-level English practice.
IBPS PO Reasoning Syllabus
Speed-based Prelims reasoning and advanced Mains logic
Reasoning is one of the most important IBPS PO sections. Prelims usually needs fast selection of easy questions, while Mains needs patience with advanced puzzles, arrangements and logical reasoning.
Computer Awareness Areas
For complete puzzle, seating arrangement, logical reasoning and Mains practice, use the Banking Reasoning preparation guide .
Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation Syllabus
Calculation speed for Prelims and advanced analysis for Mains
Quant becomes stressful when students know arithmetic formulas but cannot use them under a sectional timer. Build calculation accuracy before moving to difficult Mains Data Interpretation.
Prelims Quantitative Aptitude Topics
Mains Data Analysis and Interpretation Topics
First improve percentage, ratio, average and calculation speed. Then move to arithmetic and basic DI. Advanced Mains DI should come after the calculation foundation is stable.
Use the Banking Quant preparation guide for arithmetic, speed maths, Prelims DI and advanced Mains practice.
General, Economy, Banking and Financial Awareness Syllabus
Current affairs, banking knowledge, digital finance and RBI updates
This Mains section can strongly affect final score because it has 50 questions for 60 marks. Students should combine current affairs with banking, economy, finance and RBI-related preparation.
For daily and monthly revision, use the Daily Current Affairs YouTube guide . The complete Banking Exam preparation guide can also help with banking awareness and Mains resources.
IBPS PO Descriptive Paper Syllabus 2026
Essay and comprehension for 25 marks in 30 minutes
The current Descriptive English test contains two tasks for 25 marks. The official pattern identifies Essay and Comprehension, so students should not depend only on older letter-writing material.
How to Prepare the Descriptive Paper
| Preparation Area | What to Practise |
|---|---|
| Essay Structure | Clear introduction, organised body and practical conclusion |
| Banking Examples | Use correct RBI, digital payment and financial inclusion examples |
| Comprehension | Central idea, inference, tone and factual understanding |
| Typing Practice | Write under the real 30-minute combined time limit |
| Language | Use simple and correct English instead of unnecessary difficult words |
IBPS PO Negative Marking 2026
Use the Exact Official Rule
For an incorrect answer in an objective test, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. An unanswered question does not receive a penalty.
This wording matters because all sections do not have the same question-to-mark ratio. Do not assume that every wrong answer in every section always deducts a flat 0.25 mark.
For a one-mark English question, one wrong answer would deduct 0.25 mark. In sections where the marks assigned per question differ, the penalty should be understood according to the marks assigned in the official examination system.
IBPS PO Personality Test and Interview Pattern
Candidates shortlisted through the Main Examination must appear for the Personality Test. It is mandatory but non-qualifying. Candidates who complete this stage are subsequently called for the Interview.
Personality Test

- Mandatory for eligible shortlisted candidates.

| 3 | Solve questions after every class | Watching videos alone does not improve exam performance |
| 4 | Maintain a mistake notebook | Repeated calculation, grammar and puzzle errors become visible |
| 5 | Practise descriptive English weekly | Typing and structure need gradual improvement |
| 6 | Analyse mocks before attempting another | Mock quantity without analysis gives limited improvement |
