SSC CHSL 2026 Application Form Guide: Live Photo, Aadhaar OTR, Documents & Common Mistakes
SSC CHSL 2026 application is open from 7 September to 7 October 2026. If you are applying, first check your new SSC OTR, Aadhaar authentication, live photograph, signature and basic documents instead of rushing directly to the final submit button. A small mistake in identity details, photo, category or fee status can create a problem later.
What Should You Check Before Filling SSC CHSL 2026 Form?
Start with your SSC One-Time Registration. If you only have an old OTR created on ssc.nic.in, that registration will not work on the new SSC website. You need OTR on ssc.gov.in. If you already have a valid OTR generated on the new website, you can use it for SSC CHSL 2026.
SSC has also introduced Aadhaar-based authentication. Candidates have the option to authenticate through Aadhaar, and SSC advises candidates to use it. If you do not use Aadhaar authentication, you may have to provide additional identity documents during OTR.
One important change students should understand is the photograph process. You do not need to prepare and upload an old passport-size photograph for the application. The application module captures your photograph live through the camera.
SSC CHSL 2026 Application Dates You Should Not Miss
SSC gives a separate deadline for submitting the application and paying the examination fee. This is where students sometimes get confused. Submitting some details or generating OTR does not automatically mean that your CHSL application is complete.

SSC CHSL Aadhaar OTR: What Does It Mean?
OTR means One-Time Registration. It creates your basic candidate profile on the SSC portal. Details such as your name, date of birth, parents' names, mobile number, email and Matriculation information become important because many fields in the examination application are connected with your OTR data.
During OTR, keep an active mobile number and email ID because OTP verification is used. You should also keep your Class 10 board name, roll number and passing year ready.
Is Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for SSC CHSL 2026?
Aadhaar-based authentication is available in the current examination and SSC advises candidates to opt for it. However, the notice also provides a route for candidates who do not authenticate through Aadhaar. Such candidates have additional document requirements for completing OTR.
This distinction is important. Do not read a social-media post saying “Aadhaar compulsory” and enter incorrect information just to finish registration. Follow the option available in your SSC account and the documents prescribed for your route.
Aadhaar Authentication
Use the Aadhaar-based process provided by SSC and make sure your entered identity details are correct.
Without Aadhaar Authentication
SSC requires prescribed proof relating to name, date of birth, address, photograph and gender for completion of OTR.
The notice gives examples such as Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, Driving Licence and government identity documents for name proof; birth certificate or school-leaving-related documents for date of birth; and accepted documents for address and gender proof depending on the requirement shown in OTR.
The safest approach is simple: enter your name and date of birth exactly according to the record SSC asks you to use. Do not add a nickname, short form or different spelling because that is how you usually write your name elsewhere.
How to Take SSC CHSL 2026 Live Photo Correctly
Many candidates spend time compressing an old passport photo, but SSC CHSL 2026 uses live photograph capture through the application module. The important thing is not photo editing. The important thing is that the camera can clearly capture your current face.
Do This
- Sit or stand in a place with good light.
- Use a plain background.
- Keep the camera around eye level.
- Look directly towards the camera.
- Keep the complete face inside the required area.
- Check the preview before moving ahead.
Avoid This
- Do not wear a cap.
- Do not wear a mask.
- Do not wear glasses or spectacles during capture.
- Do not keep the face too close to the camera.
- Do not capture a photograph of an old printed photo.
- Do not submit a dark or unclear capture when you can retake it.
SSC CHSL Signature Size and Format
Unlike the photograph, your signature is uploaded as a scanned image. According to the current notice, the scanned signature should be in JPEG/JPG format and 10 KB to 20 KB. The suggested image dimension is about 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high.
A signature may become unreadable when students compress it too much. Before uploading, open the final file once and check whether the signature is clearly visible at normal size. A miniature or badly blurred signature can create a problem.
Documents and Details to Keep Ready Before Applying
You may not upload every document while filling the normal application, but keeping the correct records beside you reduces spelling and category mistakes. Do not fill important information only from memory.
Class 10 Details
Keep the Matriculation certificate or marksheet ready for your name, date of birth, board, roll number and passing year.
Class 12 Record
Keep your 12th qualification details ready. Your required qualification must satisfy the cut-off conditions for the post you choose.
Mobile & Email
Use an active personal mobile number and email ID that you can continue using during the recruitment process.
Signature File
Prepare a clear JPG/JPEG signature between 10 KB and 20 KB in the prescribed approximate dimension.
Category Documents
If claiming SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, ESM or another benefit, read the current certificate conditions carefully and make sure you can prove the claim.
PwBD / Scribe Documents
Candidates claiming disability, scribe or compensatory-time benefits should check the prescribed certificate and application requirements in the notice.
Check These Details Before You Choose a CHSL Post
SSC CHSL is generally known as a 12th-pass examination, but students should not assume that every post has exactly the same qualification requirement.
For LDC/JSA and most posts, candidates need the required 12th Standard or equivalent qualification. Certain DEO/DEO Grade A posts mentioned in the notice require Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
The general age limit in the current notice is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026, subject to applicable category relaxation. Educational qualification conditions are linked to the closing date, 7 October 2026.

Open the official SSC website
Go directly to ssc.gov.in. Avoid entering your registration password or Aadhaar information on random third-party “apply now” pages.
Complete or check your new SSC OTR
If you have not generated OTR on the new website, complete it first. Carefully verify name, parents' names, date of birth and Matriculation details.
Open CHSL 2026 application
Log in to your SSC dashboard and choose Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026.
Fill examination-specific details
Check qualification, category, exam-related options and other fields shown in your application. Read each label instead of selecting options in a hurry.
Capture your live photograph
Use good light and a plain background. Keep the face straight and inside the capture area. Remove cap, mask and spectacles.
Upload the signature
Upload the correct JPEG/JPG signature file and check its clarity on the preview.
Preview every field
Compare identity details with your documents. Check category, qualification, photo, signature and the application declaration before final submission.
Pay the fee if applicable
The application fee is ₹100 for candidates who are not exempt. Women candidates and eligible SC, ST, PwBD and ESM candidates are exempt as provided in the notice.
Confirm application status and save proof
After completing the process, download or save your final submitted application and check the status instead of assuming that a bank debit alone means successful submission.
Common SSC CHSL Application Mistakes to Avoid
Most application mistakes are not complicated. They happen because students fill the form quickly and plan to check it later. Use this list before final submission.
Using only the old SSC OTR
OTR generated on the old ssc.nic.in website is not functional on the new portal. Check which portal your OTR belongs to.
Capturing an old photograph
The camera process is meant to capture you live. Do not show an existing photograph to the camera.
Dark or badly positioned live photo
Use good lighting, keep the camera at eye level and make sure your full face is clearly inside the required area.
Blurred or miniature signature
Do not focus only on reaching 10–20 KB. Open the final image and check whether the signature can actually be seen clearly.
Name or DOB mismatch
Match important identity fields with the document prescribed by SSC, especially your Matriculation record.
Wrong reservation claim
Select SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, ESM or other benefits only when you satisfy the conditions and can produce the required evidence.
Ignoring fee status
If a fee is applicable to you, verify successful application and payment status. Do not rely only on money being deducted from the bank.
Waiting for the final few hours
SSC itself advises candidates to submit well before the closing date because heavy website traffic or login problems may happen near the deadline.

Can You Correct SSC CHSL 2026 Application After Submission?
SSC has provided an application correction window from 14 October to 16 October 2026 up to 11:00 PM. Candidates whose completed applications were received within the prescribed period can use the correction facility according to the notification.
The correction charge is ₹200 for the first corrected submission and ₹500 for the second corrected submission. These charges apply irrespective of gender or category. SSC allows a maximum of two corrected submissions during the correction window.
After the correction window ends, SSC says no further change or correction will be allowed under the normal correction facility.
