Registration, Documents, Photo Rules & Common Mistakes
A clear application guide for students who want to organise their records, prepare readable files and review the form calmly before paying.

JEE Main registration usually becomes stressful when everything is left for the same evening. The photo is on one phone, the marksheet is in a cupboard, and someone at the computer is asking for a detail you have not checked.
A little preparation makes the process easier. This guide covers the JEE Main 2027 documents list, photo and signature specifications, application steps, payment checks and common mistakes. Keep the official form open beside the guide when you apply.
Finish the paperwork in a planned sitting so it does not disturb your preparation. Our JEE Main study roadmap for beginners can help organise your next study tasks; use the current NTA syllabus for the final chapter list.
Date source: NTA Session 1 application notice, dated 24 October 2026. Later official notices may revise this schedule.
JEE Main 2027 Registration Dates
| Stage | Official schedule |
|---|---|

Documents Required for JEE Main 2027 Registration
Arrange the originals first, then create the files needed for uploading. Keep details used for typing separate from files actually requested by an upload box.
Keep these details beside you
Identity records, Class 10 and Class 12 information, an accessible email account, a working mobile number, address details and information supporting any category or disability declaration.
Compare names, dates and certificate numbers carefully. Resolve a mismatch through the relevant official process instead of guessing.
Check eligibility before spending time
Class 12/equivalent eligibility years: passed in 2025 or 2026, or appearing in 2027. Read Chapter 3 and the institute admission conditions.
If you are taking a drop year, use the JEE dropper preparation guide to plan study support after your application work.

Make a simple file arrangement
Create two folders named Originals and Upload Copies. Give the copies clear names such as passport-photo.jpg, signature.jpg and class-10.pdf. These names are an organisational suggestion, not an NTA naming rule.
If a required document exists as phone images, the images-to-PDF maker can help arrange them. Turn off assignment covers and extra page labels for an official certificate. Include only the pages requested, without changing the document's contents.
JEE Main 2027 Photo Rules: Live Capture and Scanned Image
The bulletin requires both a live photograph and a recent scanned colour passport photograph. Its appearance instructions are a white background, 80% face visibility including ears, and no mask. A webcam or the portal's mobile/tablet QR route can be used for live capture.
Capture yourself live
Set up the camera before starting. Check the lighting, lens and preview. Keep the device steady while following the portal's prompts.
Upload the prepared photograph
Locate your final photo file, compare it with the upload chart, and inspect the selected image before continuing.
Good light makes the face easier to inspect
Face the light source rather than standing in front of a bright window. Wipe the lens and take another capture if the image is blurred. Check for reflections or strong shadows.
This illustration explains lighting and centring. It is not a measured photo-cropping template.
Prepare the scanned photo without damaging it
Start with a clear original and save a separate upload copy. Avoid beauty filters, face reshaping and decorative borders. Reopen the exported file at a useful zoom level; a small file is not automatically a good file.
Use the exam photo and signature resizer if you need a smaller image. Enter the current application requirements yourself. Its example presets are starting points, so do not apply a different exam's dimensions without checking.
Give the signature its own check
Check that the beginning and end of your signature remain visible after cropping. Remove unnecessary empty margins without cutting the writing. Keep its settings separate from the photograph's settings, and compare the finished result with the signature row in the chart.
For a document PDF that is too large, read the PDF compression guide and tool. Preserve the complete page appearance. Avoid text-only reconstruction for certificates, and keep an official digitally signed original intact. Check both the lower and upper size limits after export.

How to Fill the JEE Main 2027 Application Form
- RegisterKeep your application number.
- Complete the formReview details and files.
- Pay the feeCheck the transaction status.
- Save confirmationKeep the final record safely.
-
Start from the official application page
Open the NTA JEE website and follow its Session 1 link. The bulletin describes registration through MeriPehchaan single sign-on; follow the identity-verification choices presented by the official flow. Bookmark the official page rather than searching again for a login link each time.
-
Read each field before typing
Keep the relevant record beside the keyboard. Check names, date of birth, educational details, course choice and declarations one field at a time. If another person is helping, review what they enter while you can still compare it with your documents.
-
Select files by opening them
Do not rely only on similar filenames. Inspect the exact file chosen for each box. Complete the camera task and use the preview to check that the correct person's photograph and signature are present.
-
Review the complete form in a second pass
Use one pass for identity and education, and another for choices, declarations and uploads. Reading everything once at high speed makes repeated details easy to overlook.
-
Check the payable amount, then finish the transaction
Compare your displayed application fee with the official fee table on printed page 6. Keep the transaction reference and download the confirmation page.
Application stages: official Session 1 application entry page. The review method here is a suggested workflow, not a description of every portal screen.
Common JEE Main Registration Mistakes
Following an old screenshot
An older exam guide can look convincing. Compare its year and instructions with the current bulletin before using any upload setting.
Renaming a file instead of converting it
Changing a filename ending does not change the file's actual format. Export a genuine file in the required format and reopen it.
Selecting the wrong person's file
A shared device may contain a sibling's photo or signature. Open the selected file instead of trusting a generic name such as photo-final.
Making every file as tiny as possible
Very strong compression can make writing unreadable or push a file below the permitted minimum. Aim for a clear result inside the allowed range.
Guessing an academic detail
A roll number, registration number and school code are different identifiers. Read the field label and copy the matching information from the correct record.
Guessing a category declaration
Read the applicable official conditions and check the supporting record before choosing a category or disability option. Ask for official clarification when necessary.
Choosing a paper without checking the course
Paper 1 is for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, and Paper 2B for B.Planning. Read the course label before confirming your choice.
Starting a second application to fix a problem
NTA's notice allows only one application per candidate. Use the existing account and official assistance for problems instead of creating another form.
Stopping at the bank debit message
A bank message and the application dashboard are separate records. Return to the official portal and check the application's payment and confirmation status.
Leaving every correction for later
Only NTA-enabled fields can be edited during correction. Review carefully before submission instead of assuming every detail will remain editable.
Payment Debited but Confirmation Page Missing?
First record what you can actually see: the application number, transaction reference, payment time, amount and the status displayed after logging in again. A clear record helps the bank, payment gateway or NTA understand the problem.
Follow the payment troubleshooting instructions on printed page 10 of the official bulletin. Establish whether the earlier transaction succeeded before attempting another payment, and keep the applicable deadline in view.
Describe the issue briefly and keep relevant screenshots privately. Never post a password, OTP or full bank-card details in a public study group while asking for help.
Before You Start the Final Application Review
Tick each item after checking it yourself. This list helps organise the work; the official application still needs its own review, payment and confirmation.
0 of 8 preparation checks ticked.
The ticks are for this visit and reset when the page is reloaded. No personal details need to be entered into this checklist.
What to Do After Completing Registration
Save the confirmation record in a folder you can find later. Set a reminder to check the official website for relevant updates, then return to your scheduled chapter instead of spending the rest of the day watching application videos.
Your next useful task can be a short set of questions from a chapter you have already studied. The JEE previous-year-question resource guide can help you find solution support after you have attempted the questions yourself.
Keep resource collection limited too. Use the JEE Main Telegram study-resource guide to organise notes and practice feeds. For registration dates and requirements, continue checking NTA's own website.
JEE Main 2027 Registration FAQs
What is the regular last date for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration?
The current notice gives 22 November 2026, 11:50 PM IST. See the date chart for the separately listed late-fee and correction windows.
Are live capture and the uploaded photograph the same task?
No. Prepare for both tasks shown in the photo section. Having a saved photograph ready does not complete a live camera capture.
What are the JEE Main 2027 photo and signature file limits?
Use the separate photo and signature rows in the official upload chart above. Do not use one compression preset for every file.
How should I prepare my device for the live photograph?
Charge the device, test camera access and set up good lighting. Keep the lens clean and follow the instructions displayed on the official capture screen.
Is a document below the minimum KB size acceptable?
A size range has two boundaries. Compare the downloaded file against both. A compressor that targets only a maximum cannot, by itself, confirm that the minimum requirement has been met.
Should I keep the originals after making upload copies?
Yes. Keep the original records and a separate set of upload copies. This makes it easier to try another export setting without repeatedly editing an already compressed file.
Can every application detail be changed during correction?
Only fields enabled by NTA. Do not rely on later corrections; review the complete form before submission.
What should I save after applying?
Keep the confirmation page, application number and payment reference in a private folder. Check that the downloaded record opens correctly and is easy to locate later.
Final Advice Before You Apply
JEE Main 2027 registration becomes easier when you separate it into small jobs: arrange the records, prepare readable files, compare each field, and complete the official payment and confirmation steps. Give the final review the same attention as the first attempt at the form.
Check the latest NTA instructions when you apply. After completing the paperwork, return to the work that improves your preparation: concepts, written practice, revision and careful analysis of mistakes.
