JoSAA Round 5 feels more serious than the earlier rounds because it closes the regular joint seat-allocation process. For IIT and IISc candidates, this was the final allocation round. For students holding an NIT, IIEST, IIIT, SPA or another GFTI seat, the next important stage was Partial Admission Fee payment, followed by institute reporting or a decision about CSAB Special Rounds.
Many students see the JoSAA Round 5 seat allotment result and assume that no further action is needed because they had already paid the Seat Acceptance Fee in an earlier round. This is where confusion starts. SAF and PAF are different payments, and PAF was compulsory for a provisionally confirmed NIT+ seat after Round 5.
This guide explains how to check the JoSAA Round 5 result, what online reporting meant for a first-time allottee, the PAF amount and missed-payment result, physical reporting, and the exact CSAB next step. The language is simple so that you can match the rule with your own seat status instead of following random advice.
Which candidate path applies to you?
Do not follow one common instruction for every Round 5 candidate.
Round 5 was the final JoSAA allocation round for IITs and IISc. PAF does not apply to this seat because PAF is an NIT+ payment.
Download the final letter, check the institute profile and follow the allotted institute's reporting, fee and biometric-verification instructions.
Your JoSAA seat remains secured subject to final document and institute verification. Now decide whether you will keep it directly or enter CSAB for a preferred option.
If you are not joining CSAB or DASA, follow your allotted institute for physical reporting between the announced dates.
A no-seat result does not automatically end NIT+ admission. An eligible JEE Main candidate can complete fresh registration for CSAB Special Rounds.
CSAB uses a new fee and fresh choice list. JoSAA choices are not carried forward automatically.
Under the official JoSAA rule, the provisionally allotted seat is forfeited when PAF is not paid within the permitted window.
Such candidates are listed as an eligible CSAB Type 9 case if SAF was paid and document verification was completed successfully, subject to all other eligibility rules.
Do not confuse “result viewed” with “admission completed.” A seat is finally useful only when the required online reporting, payment, verification and institute admission formalities are completed within the relevant schedule.
How to check JoSAA Round 5 seat allotment result
Use the registered-candidate portal linked from the official JoSAA website.
- Open josaa.nic.in. Use the “View Round 5 Seat Allocation Result” link shown on the official activity board.
- Enter the correct login ID. Use the JEE Main application number or the applicable JEE Advanced login ID, along with the correct password and security pin.
- Read the complete allotment. Check institute, academic programme, quota, category, seat pool and whether the seat is new, upgraded or unchanged.
- Download the available letter. Save the Initial Seat Allotment Intimation Slip and, after successful confirmation, the Provisional Seat Allotment Letter.
- Check the payment and query panels. Confirm whether SAF and PAF show successful and whether a document-verification query is pending.
- Save proof offline. Keep the allotment letter, payment receipts, locked choices and confirmation letter in one folder for institute reporting.
JoSAA states that it is the candidate's responsibility to log in and check the result. A separate personal intimation is not guaranteed. Always use the official NIC login page and never share the password or OTP with a counselling agent.
What online reporting meant in Round 5
This section mainly applies to candidates who received a seat for the first time or required fresh verification.
The Round 5 online reporting window ran from the result announcement on 16 July until 20 July 2026. The last date for payment was 20 July at 5:00 PM, while fee-payment issues and the final response to verification queries were handled up to 21 July at 5:00 PM according to the official JoSAA schedule.
Choose the available willingness option and download the initial allotment slip.
Upload the required documents if they were not already available and accepted in the portal.
Seat Acceptance Fee is paid only when a seat is allotted for the first time, unless prepaid.
Reply through the candidate portal and upload a corrected document when requested.
JoSAA documents are verified only after successful SAF payment. If a candidate moved from an IIT/IISc seat to an NIT+ seat for the first time, or from NIT+ to IIT/IISc, independent re-verification could be required. Candidates who stayed only within the same institute system across all rounds generally did not need independent re-verification again.
If your seat was first allotted in Round 5 and online reporting was incomplete, the old deadline has already passed. Check the current status in your dashboard and use only the official helpdesk for clarification. Do not assume that a late email can replace a portal action.
SAF and PAF are not the same payment
The two fees are paid at different stages and protect different parts of the process.

The JoSAA business rules state that PAF is adjusted against the institute admission fee and, once paid, is not refundable. Institute tuition, hostel and remaining admission charges are separate and should be checked on the allotted institute's website.
Payment-status check: keeping only a bank debit message is not enough. The portal should show successful payment, and the candidate should download the receipt. If money was debited but the dashboard did not update during the payment window, only cases meeting the official “payment attempt” condition entered the resolution process.
What happens if PAF was not paid?
The JoSAA NIT+ seat and CSAB eligibility must be understood separately.
The official rule is direct: non-payment of PAF within the allowed time is treated as rejection of the provisionally allocated NIT+ seat. The seat is forfeited and can move into the CSAB Special vacancy pool. The business rules also state that SAF is refunded after deducting a withdrawal processing charge of Rs. 7,000 in this situation.
Missing PAF does not automatically block every later NIT+ possibility. The CSAB 2026 brochure includes a Type 9 candidate: someone whose JoSAA NIT+ seat was cancelled because PAF was not paid after SAF payment and successful document verification. This candidate may participate in CSAB Special Rounds if all other eligibility requirements are satisfied.
But the old JoSAA seat does not return. CSAB is a fresh counselling process using a new registration, enrolment fee and new choices. Participation gives another chance for a vacant seat; it does not restore the earlier allotment.
IIT/IISc next step and NIT+ next step
Round 5 closes differently for the two systems.
If your seat is in IIT or IISc
Round 5 was the final allocation round. CSAB does not offer IIT seats, and NIT+ PAF does not apply to an IIT/IISc allotment.
- Download the final provisional admission letter.
- Open the institute profile and official institute website.
- Check reporting mode, date, balance fee and hostel instructions.
- Keep original documents ready for physical and biometric verification.
If your seat is in the NIT+ System
NIT+ includes NITs, IIEST, IIITs, SPAs and participating Other-GFTIs. PAF was required to secure the seat after JoSAA.
- Confirm PAF success and download the receipt.
- Decide whether to keep the seat or join CSAB Special.
- If not joining CSAB or DASA, follow the allotted institute's reporting notice.
- If joining CSAB, understand that a new allotment can replace the retained seat.
CSAB Special Round is the next step for NIT+ seats
Registration and choice filling are live, but the JoSAA process is not carried over automatically.
CSAB Special Rounds fill vacant seats left in the NIT+ System after JoSAA. There are two seat-allocation rounds in 2026. IIT seats are not included. A candidate can participate after no JoSAA allotment, after certain seat cancellations or withdrawals, or while retaining a secured JoSAA NIT+ seat, depending on the candidate type in the brochure.
Eligible candidates must register again and pay the applicable Special Round Enrolment Fee.
Do not confuse this earlier registration deadline with the later choice-lock deadline.
JoSAA choices are null for CSAB. Save and lock a new preference list.
Allotted candidates must complete willingness, reporting, applicable IAF-II payment and document action.
This is the second special allocation result under the published schedule.
The Special Round Enrolment Fee is Rs. 40,000 for GEN, GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates and Rs. 19,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Earlier JoSAA payments are adjusted for applicable candidate types, so the portal may display only the balance payable for an individual candidate.
If you retained a JoSAA NIT+ seat after paying PAF: CSAB initially keeps it as your last choice. If a new CSAB seat is allotted, the earlier JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled and cannot be reclaimed. Add only those fresh choices that you genuinely prefer over the retained seat.
Physical reporting after JoSAA and CSAB
Online confirmation is provisional until original documents and institute requirements are completed.
For NIT+ candidates who paid PAF and are not participating in CSAB Special or DASA, the JoSAA website states a physical-reporting period from 13 to 18 August 2026. For candidates participating in CSAB Special, the published schedule also shows a tentative reporting window from 13 to 18 August.
These are not universal reporting appointments for every institute. Check the allotted institute's website for the actual day, reporting venue, balance fee, hostel process, anti-ragging documents and commencement of classes. IIT and IISc candidates should follow the reporting schedule shown through the institute profile and the respective institute website.

Common mistakes after the Round 5 result
The result is final for JoSAA, but several admission actions still remain.
- Assuming SAF paid in an earlier round meant that NIT+ PAF was unnecessary.
- Reading the original 24 July deadline without checking the later extension notice.
- Trying to pay PAF now through an unofficial link after the official window has closed.
- Believing an IIT/IISc candidate also needs NIT+ PAF.
- Forgetting to download the final provisional seat-allotment letter and receipts.
- Ignoring a query because no SMS or email was received separately.
- Thinking that CSAB will automatically reuse the JoSAA registration and preference order.
- Joining CSAB with a retained seat without understanding the automatic-replacement rule.
- Using the tentative 13 to 18 August window without checking the institute's exact reporting notice.
- Trusting a Telegram or WhatsApp payment link instead of josaa.nic.in or csab.nic.in.
