Download Your Academic Documents from DigiLocker
A practical guide to finding an official marksheet, degree, diploma or migration certificate, saving its PDF, checking its QR code and fixing a missing or incorrect record.
How do students download documents from DigiLocker?
Students can fetch an academic document only when the issuing board, university or institution has published that record through DigiLocker or the National Academic Depository.
Which student documents are available in DigiLocker?
DigiLocker can show school and higher-education records issued by participating boards, universities and institutions. The exact list is not identical for every student. An institution may publish marksheets but not degrees, or it may publish recent batches before older records.
Marksheet and passing record
This may include a Class 10 or Class 12 marksheet, marksheet-cum-certificate, semester marksheet, consolidated statement or passing certificate, depending on the issuer.
Degree and diploma
A university can publish a degree, diploma, provisional certificate or another academic award through the National Academic Depository connected to DigiLocker.
Migration certificate
A board or university may issue a migration certificate for a student moving to another education system. Availability and process depend on that issuer.
| Document | Typical issuer | Common use | Details commonly requested |
|---|---|---|---|
| School marksheet | Education board | College admission, scholarship, age or qualification proof | Roll number, passing year, class and date of birth |
| University marksheet | University or authorised institution | Higher studies, jobs, academic verification | Enrollment or registration number, year and course |
| Degree or diploma | University or awarding body | Employment, admission and credential verification | Registration number, name, programme and passing year |
| Migration certificate | Board or university | Joining another board, university or institution | Roll or registration number, examination and passing year |
Names and fields can vary on the current DigiLocker screen. Always follow the label used by your issuer.
Issued Documents and Uploaded Documents are not the same
This is the most important point in the complete DigiLocker process. A document fetched from an authorised issuer is different from a photo or PDF that a student uploads personally.
Fetched or pushed by the issuer
- Published by a board, university or authorised department.
- Saved in the Issued Documents section.
- Usually contains a secure issuer link or QR verification.
- Treated at par with the original physical document under the applicable DigiLocker rules when used electronically.
Added by the student
- A scan, photo or PDF placed in personal cloud storage.
- Useful for organising and accessing a personal copy.
- Not automatically verified by the original board or university.
- Does not become an issuer-authenticated academic credential merely because it was uploaded.
Keep these details ready
A record search usually fails because the entered details do not match the issuer database. Copy the information from the original admit card, registration slip or physical certificate instead of relying on memory.
Step-by-step DigiLocker document download process
The wording can change slightly between the website and mobile app, but the official retrieval flow remains broadly the same.
- Sign in to the official DigiLocker website or app Use your registered mobile number or the sign-in method shown on the official page. Never share your OTP with an agent, coaching group or unknown caller.
- Open Browse Documents or Search Documents Go to the Education category. You can also search the exact name of your board, university or institution.
- Select the correct issuer Check the full institution name carefully. Similar names, regional campuses and separate boards can produce the wrong search form.
- Choose the academic document Select marksheet, passing certificate, degree, diploma, provisional certificate or migration certificate, depending on what the issuer has made available.
- Enter the record details exactly Fill the roll number, registration number, name, year, examination or other requested fields exactly as stored by the issuer.
- Give consent and select Get Document Review the details before submitting. DigiLocker then requests the matching record from the issuer.
- Open Issued Documents If a matching record is available, it appears in this section. Open it and check the name, document number, year and institution.
- Download, print or share as required Use the available PDF or share option. For an online submission, follow the receiving portal's file type and size instructions.
How to download a marksheet from DigiLocker
Search for the issuing board or university, not the school or college name unless that institution itself appears as an issuer. Select the correct marksheet option and enter the requested examination details.
School board marksheet
- Open Education under Browse Documents.
- Select your board and choose the Class 10 or Class 12 document.
- Enter roll number, year and other fields shown.
- Select Get Document and check Issued Documents.
The issuer may call it a marksheet, marksheet-cum-certificate, passing certificate or result document.
University marksheet
- Search the official university or awarding institution.
- Choose semester, annual or consolidated marksheet if listed.
- Enter enrollment, registration, roll, course and passing details.
- Fetch the document and verify every field before use.
If your application form asks for a percentage, use your university's official conversion rule. The CGPA to percentage calculator can help with the calculation after you select the correct formula.
Special note for CBSE students
CBSE students may receive a six-digit DigiLocker access code from their school for account confirmation around result time. On the official CBSE activation page, the student may be asked for class, school code, roll number, access code and date of birth, followed by OTP verification.
After successful confirmation, the available CBSE result documents can appear in Issued Documents. A student who already has a DigiLocker account may still need to search and fetch the document manually if it is not visible.
Open official CBSE activation pageHow to download a degree or diploma from DigiLocker
Digital degrees and academic awards are published through the National Academic Depository by participating universities and institutions. The university remains responsible for the record and its accuracy; DigiLocker provides access to the digital award.
- Search the complete university name Use the university or awarding body's official name. A college name may not work when the degree is issued by an affiliating university.
- Choose Degree, Diploma or the listed award The exact option depends on what the institution has published. A provisional certificate and final degree are separate documents when both are listed.
- Enter academic identifiers Use the name, registration or enrollment number, programme and passing year that match the university database.
- Fetch and inspect the issued award Check the course, institution, year and award number before submitting it for employment or further study.
How to download a migration certificate from DigiLocker
Open the Education category, select the issuing board or university, choose Migration Certificate, enter the examination and student details, then select Get Document. If the issuer has published the certificate, it will be saved under Issued Documents.
| Certificate | Usually issued by | Typical purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Migration certificate | Board or university | Moving to another board, university or academic system |
| Transfer certificate | School or college | Leaving the present institution and recording the transfer |
The exact requirement differs by institution. Read the admission notice before deciding which certificate to submit.
CBSE migration certificate update
CBSE's official notice states that routine hard-copy migration certificates were discontinued from the 2025 examinations, with digital migration certificates made available through DigiLocker for admission use. The notice also describes a physical-certificate request route through the Duplicate Academic Document System during the stated transition arrangement.
Students should follow the latest CBSE admission and document notice because the Class 10 and Class 12 use cases are not identical.
Are DigiLocker marksheets and degrees valid?
Documents issued into DigiLocker's Issued Documents section by authorised issuers are deemed at par with original physical documents under Rule 9A of the Information Technology rules governing Digital Locker facilities. NAD also states that its issued academic awards are at par with the originals, even when the standard digital format looks different from a physical certificate.
Use confidently when
- The document is shown under Issued Documents.
- The issuer name and student details are correct.
- The secure QR or issuer verification works.
- The receiving portal accepts DigiLocker or digital academic records.
Pause and verify when
- The file exists only under your personal uploads.
- The name, year, course or marks are incorrect.
- The institution requests a different document, such as a provisional degree.
- The QR code or official document link cannot be verified.
DigiLocker document not found: causes and fixes
| Problem | Likely reason | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| No record found | Wrong roll number, year, examination or issuer selection | Match every field with the original admit card or certificate and retry once. |
| Institution is missing | The institution may not be onboarded or may not have published data | Contact the board or university records section and ask whether the batch is available in NAD or DigiLocker. |
| Older year is unavailable | Legacy records may not have been digitised or uploaded | Ask the issuer about digital publication or its duplicate-document process. There is no single availability deadline for every past record. |
| Fetched document is wrong | The source database contains incorrect or mismatched data | Report the correction to the issuing board or university, which controls the academic record. |
| Name does not match | The issuer record and current Aadhaar or DigiLocker profile use different names | Use the issuer's exact record for search, then request a formal correction from the issuer if the academic record itself is wrong. |
| PDF or page will not open | Temporary technical, browser or account issue | Retry on the official app or site, update the app, use a current browser, then raise a DigiLocker support ticket if the issue continues. |
How to correct a wrong name, date, marks or other details
DigiLocker normally displays the information supplied by the issuer. It cannot independently rewrite your board or university record. The correct route depends on whether the source record is wrong or the DigiLocker service has a technical problem.
1. Confirm the error
Compare the issued digital document with the official physical record, result portal or university data. Take a clear screenshot of the problem.
2. Contact the issuer
For a wrong name, date of birth, marks, course, year or document number, contact the board, university or awarding institution's correction section.
3. Use support for tech issues
If correct issuer data does not fetch, the account fails, or the PDF has a technical issue, submit a ticket through official DigiLocker support.
Information to include in a support request
- Student name exactly as shown in the academic record.
- Board, university or institution name.
- Document type and passing year or examination session.
- Roll, registration, enrollment or seat number.
- Screenshot of the error without exposing OTP, password or unnecessary private data.
- A clear description of the steps already tried.

DigiLocker documents for students: FAQs
How can I download my marksheet from DigiLocker?
Sign in, open Browse or Search Documents, choose Education, select your board or university and marksheet type, enter the exact record details and select Get Document. The fetched record appears under Issued Documents.
Can I download my university degree from DigiLocker?
Yes, if your university has published that degree and batch through NAD or DigiLocker. Search the awarding university, enter the requested identifiers and fetch the document.
How do I get a migration certificate in DigiLocker?
Select the issuing board or university under Education, choose Migration Certificate, enter the examination details and fetch it. The certificate will appear only if the issuer has published the matching record.
Are DigiLocker marksheets valid for admission?
An academic record issued by an authorised issuer into Issued Documents is legally at par with the physical original under the applicable rules. Follow the institution's current method for upload or verification.
Is an uploaded scan equal to a DigiLocker issued document?
No. A personal upload is storage for your own file. It is not automatically authenticated by the board or university and should not be represented as an issuer-fetched record.
Why does DigiLocker show no record found?
The details may not match, the wrong issuer may be selected, or the institution may not have published that year and document. Recheck the original record before contacting the issuer.
Can DigiLocker correct my name or marks?
DigiLocker displays issuer data and normally cannot change the academic source record. Contact the issuing board or university for a correction, then fetch the updated document when available.
Do I need a separate NAD registration or NAD ID?
No. NAD's official student guidance says students access academic awards through DigiLocker. A separate student registration or separate NAD ID is not required.
Can students upload their own degree to NAD?
No. Official academic awards in NAD are lodged by academic institutions. A student can store a scan personally, but that does not create an official NAD credential.
What if my old marksheet is not available?
Older records may not have been digitised or published. Contact the board or university for its DigiLocker availability or official duplicate-document process.
What is the CBSE DigiLocker access code?
It is a six-digit code distributed through schools for student account confirmation around result access. Use it only on the official CBSE DigiLocker activation page with the requested school and exam details.
Can I print a DigiLocker degree or marksheet?
You can download and print the available PDF. However, a receiving organisation may prefer the digital record, official sharing or QR verification, so read its submission instructions.
How can someone verify a DigiLocker document?
Use the secure QR code and the official DigiLocker verification service. Do not rely on a visual check of a screenshot when proper verification is required.
Is every university degree available in DigiLocker?
No. Coverage depends on the university, programme, year and record type published by the institution. The absence of a record does not by itself mean that the qualification is invalid.

Interfaces, issuer coverage and institution-specific processes can change. Use these official pages for the latest account, retrieval and support guidance.
Final checklist before you submit a DigiLocker document
Fetch the record from the correct issuer, open it under Issued Documents and verify your name, roll or registration number, course, passing year and institution. Download the PDF without editing it, follow the receiving portal's format rules and use official QR verification whenever authenticity needs to be checked.
If the source data is wrong, contact the board or university. If the official record is correct but DigiLocker has an access or delivery problem, use the DigiLocker support portal with complete record details and a safe screenshot.
