OTR registration, scheme-wise eligibility, document preparation, live deadline checking, application steps, status tracking and payment guidance in one simple student-friendly guide.
The National Scholarship Portal is open for Academic Year 2026-27 from 1 June 2026. Students need a 14-digit One Time Registration number based on Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID before applying. There is no single NSP last date for every scholarship. As checked on 8 August 2026, several schemes show 31 October 2026, some pre-matric and school-level schemes show 31 August 2026, and a few schemes are still marked not yet opened.
First generate or recover your OTR, use the official eligibility checker, open the live scheme list, read the specification of your chosen scholarship and submit before that scheme's own closing date.
Income limit, category, marks, course, institution, domicile, scholarship amount, document list and deadline can change from one scheme to another. An OTR number allows you to use the portal, but it does not automatically make you eligible for every scheme.
Scholarship applications often feel confusing because students see many similar terms: OTR, reference number, fresh application, renewal, institute verification, defective application, state verification and PFMS payment. This guide explains each stage in a practical order so that you can prepare the correct details before opening the form.

NSP Scholarship 2026-27 Current Update
What is open now and what students should check before applying.
The official NSP student portal states that the portal is open for Academic Year 2026-27 from 1 June 2026. OTR is mandatory, and students can use their OTR ID and password to fill or check fresh and renewal applications. The portal also says that from 2026-27 a student may apply for one merit-based scholarship and one or more welfare-based scholarships, subject to the eligibility rules of each scheme.
Do not assume that the opening of the main portal means your preferred scholarship is also open. Open the official Schemes on NSP page, find the exact scheme, and check whether it says open, renewal only or not yet opened.
What you can do now
Generate or recover OTR, check eligible schemes, read specifications, prepare documents, submit an open fresh or renewal application, and monitor verification.
What you should not assume
Do not assume one common income ceiling, one scholarship amount, one document list or one last date applies to all students.
What Is NSP OTR and Why Is It Required?
Understand the difference between a reference number, OTR and scholarship application.
OTR means One Time Registration. According to the official portal, it is a unique 14-digit number issued on the basis of Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID. It remains applicable for the student's academic career and removes the need to complete a new basic registration every academic year.
OTR is your portal identity
You use the OTR ID and password to enter the scholarship application area, apply under an eligible scheme and check the application progress.
OTR is not scholarship approval
Generating OTR does not select a scheme, submit a form or guarantee scholarship money. The application must still meet scheme rules and pass verification.
Reference number vs OTR number
During registration, the portal may first generate a reference number and send it to the registered mobile number. Face authentication is then completed using the reference number through the NSP OTR application. After successful face authentication, the OTR number is generated. Keep both the registered mobile number and login details safe.
Do not share Aadhaar OTP, OTR password, bank OTP or application password with unknown agents. If you need assisted service, the official portal says NSP services are available through Common Service Centres, with a fixed total service charge of Rs 30 for the listed complete activity.
NSP Scholarship 2026-27 Eligibility
Eligibility is decided by the selected scheme, not by one common NSP rule.
Students from school, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and research levels may find schemes on NSP. However, each scheme has its own target group. Before applying, check the following points inside the scheme specification.
If a form asks for qualifying marks, calculate them carefully with the Marks Percentage Calculator. College students can also use the CGPA to Percentage Calculator, but the university's official conversion rule should always be treated as final.
Renewal students should not wait until the form opens to check academic progress. Use the SGPA, CGPA and Target CGPA Calculator for planning, then compare the result with the renewal conditions written in the official scheme guidelines.
Fastest official eligibility route
Open the official Scholarship Eligibility Checker, enter the requested details correctly, review the suggested schemes and then read the full specification of each suggested scheme. The checker is a starting point; the scheme document remains important.
NSP Scholarship 2026-27 Last Date
A verified scheme snapshot, not a misleading one-date answer.
There is no universal NSP Scholarship 2026-27 last date. The official scheme list currently shows different closing dates for different scholarships. The table below is a useful snapshot checked on 8 August 2026, but students must verify the live card before submission because dates can be revised.
| Scheme example | Student application status | Displayed closing date | What to remember |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Means Cum Merit Scholarship | Open | 31 August 2026 | School-level applicants should not follow the later post-matric date. |
| Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities | Open | 31 August 2026 | Defective and institute verification dates are shown separately. |
| AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girl Students | Open | 31 October 2026 | Degree and diploma cards should be checked separately. |
| PM YASASVI Top Class Education in College | Open | 31 October 2026 | Category, institution and income rules apply. |
| Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities | Open | 31 October 2026 | This is different from the pre-matric closing date. |
| National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies | Not yet opened | Not displayed | Do not use a previous year's date. |
| Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for NER | Not yet opened | Not displayed | Wait for the current live scheme card to open. |
The portal can also show defective application verification, institute verification and district, state or ministry verification deadlines. Submit early enough to leave time for correction and institute action.
Documents Required for NSP Scholarship 2026-27
Prepare documents in three groups instead of uploading random files.
The exact upload list appears after the student selects an eligible scheme. Some details may be verified digitally, while other schemes can ask for certificates or declarations. Keep the following records ready, but upload only what the portal and scheme specification request.
OTR identity file
- Active mobile number
- Aadhaar number or Aadhaar Enrolment ID
- Access to Aadhaar-linked authentication
- Reference number received during registration
- NSP OTR App and updated AadhaarFaceRD App
Academic file
- Previous qualifying marksheet or certificate
- Current admission, bonafide or institute record
- Course, year and enrollment details
- Fee receipt or hosteller proof if requested
- Previous-year marksheet for renewal
Eligibility and payment file
- Income certificate for the required period
- Caste, category or community certificate
- Domicile or residence certificate
- UDID or disability record where applicable
- Bank account and Aadhaar seeding details
Check that the spelling of the student's name, date of birth and other identity details match across Aadhaar, marksheets, certificates and the bank record. A small mismatch can delay authentication or verification.
Bihar students preparing income, caste, residence, EWS or NCL records can use the Bihar RTPS Certificate Document Checker as a preparation helper. Final certificate rules must still be verified from the official issuing portal and the selected NSP scheme.
File preparation tip
Use clear scans, readable text, correct orientation and sensible filenames. Keep original documents available for institute verification.
Bank preparation tip
Check whether the bank account is active and Aadhaar seeded for DBT. The portal provides a link to check Aadhaar seeding status.
How to Complete NSP OTR Registration
Follow the official sequence from basic registration to face authentication.
Open the official OTR page
Go to the NSP OTR registration page. Avoid lookalike websites and unofficial forms.
Read the instructions and start registration
Select the new registration option and read consent, identity and authentication instructions before entering details.
Enter mobile and Aadhaar or EID details
Use the student's correct information. In applicable minor or guardian cases, follow the relationship and Aadhaar-holder instructions shown by the portal.
Complete eKYC and save the reference number
Finish the requested OTP or identity verification. Save the generated reference number sent to the registered mobile number.
Complete face authentication
Install the official NSP OTR App and updated AadhaarFaceRD App on an Android device. Use the reference number and complete face authentication according to the app instructions.
Receive and secure the 14-digit OTR
After successful authentication, save the OTR number and create or retain the login password safely. Do not publish screenshots containing personal identifiers.
The official student announcement advises users to update the UIDAI AadhaarFaceRD App. If face authentication still fails, check whether Aadhaar biometrics are locked and unlock them through the official mAadhaar or My Aadhaar service before retrying.
How to Apply for NSP Scholarship After OTR
OTR registration is only the entry step; the scheme application comes next.
Check suitable schemes
Use the official eligibility checker and scheme list. Read eligibility, benefit, document, institution and deadline sections before choosing.
Login with OTR ID and password
Open the NSP application login and select the current academic year.
Select fresh or renewal carefully
Choose fresh only when you are a new applicant under the applicable scheme. Existing eligible students should use renewal and follow continuation rules.
Fill domicile, category, academic and institute details
Choose the correct institute and course. Compare admission records and certificates before saving each section.
Add bank and document information
Enter the requested DBT details and upload only the valid files required by the selected scheme.
Preview and final submit
Check spelling, marks, certificate numbers, dates, institute, course, bank details and uploaded files. Final submit before the student closing date and save the acknowledgement.
Follow institute verification
Ask the institute scholarship or nodal office whether any physical record is required. Monitor the dashboard for defects or verification updates.
A scholarship can reduce education cost, but students should still plan fees, hostel, travel and monthly expenses. The Student Budget Planner can help you calculate the amount that remains after expected scholarship support.
If you are still comparing institutions, read the practical Government vs Private Engineering College fee comparison. A scholarship should be treated as conditional support, not guaranteed income while choosing an expensive course.
How to Check NSP Scholarship Status and Payment
Application status and payment status are two different checks.
Application status for current applications
For fresh and renewal applications from Academic Year 2024-25 onwards, login with the OTR ID and password through the student application area. Open the relevant application and check whether it is submitted, defective, pending at an authority, verified, rejected, sanctioned or moved for payment. The exact wording can vary by scheme and processing stage.
The form may be saved but not complete. Open it, finish the required sections and submit before the closing date.
The institution has not completed verification. Contact the institute nodal or scholarship office with the acknowledgement.
A detail or document needs correction. Read the defect reason, correct the allowed field and resubmit within the displayed correction period.
The first institutional check is complete, but district, state, ministry or scheme-level processing may still remain.
Read the authority and reason. Approval is not restored by repeatedly checking; follow only the correction or grievance route available for that case.
The application has moved towards payment processing. Now check payment status separately and keep the Aadhaar-seeded bank account active.
Payment status through PFMS
The NSP student page links to the PFMS Know Your Payment service for scholarship disbursement tracking. Open the official PFMS payment tracking page and enter the fields requested there. A sanctioned application and a credited bank payment are not the same stage.
If payment is pending
Wait for processing, keep the account active and check whether the application is actually sanctioned or only verified.
If payment fails
Check the bank record, Aadhaar seeding and any returned reason. Then contact the institution, NSP or PFMS helpdesk according to the stage.
Common NSP Application Mistakes
Most avoidable problems begin before the final submit button.
Generate OTR and submit the application only through scholarships.gov.in.
After OTR, login again and complete the actual scholarship scheme form.
Check the live closing date written against your exact scheme.
Using the wrong application type can create duplicate or ineligible records.
Compare Aadhaar, marksheet, category, income and bank records before entry.
Face authentication, institute mapping or document issues may need time.
A saved draft is not a submitted application. Download the final acknowledgement.
Track the form after submission and contact the institute when action is pending.
Keep Aadhaar OTP, OTR password, bank OTP and personal documents private.
