How to clean a document photo online
Upload the document photo, place the four numbered points on the paper corners and choose a cleaning preset. A readable document can still look poor in a phone photo
Students usually take a document photo in a hurry. The paper is placed on a bed or table, one side is closer to the camera, and light from a window or ceiling falls unevenly. The original certificate may be perfectly clear, but the photo looks grey on one side, yellow on the other and narrower at the top. Small text becomes difficult to read after the image is uploaded to an application portal.
This tool is meant for that practical problem. It does not change the information written on the document. It corrects the shape of the photographed page, evens out common lighting shadows and strengthens visible text. Think of it as preparing a cleaner digital copy, not creating or modifying an official record.
UNDERSTAND THE CONTROLS
What each document cleaning option actually does
The numbered points tell the tool where the paper begins and ends. The selected quadrilateral is rebuilt as a straight rectangle. This helps when the top edge looks shorter because the phone was held at an angle.
The tool compares each pixel with the lighter or darker background around it. It lifts broad grey areas while trying to keep letters darker than the page. A stronger value helps uneven lighting, but too much can fade pale stamps.
Brightness moves the complete result lighter or darker. Contrast increases separation between paper and ink. Make small changes; pushing both controls high can remove pencil marks and thin signatures.
Sharpening strengthens local edges around letters. It can make an already readable photo look crisper, but it cannot reconstruct characters that were out of focus in the original camera photo.
Auto-detect corners is only a starting point. It works best when a light-coloured document lies on a darker surface and all four edges are visible. Always look at the numbered points before processing. On a mobile phone, drag a point with your finger; on a laptop, use the mouse.

Choose the full-resolution image. A WhatsApp-forwarded copy may already have lost small text detail.
- Place corners before using filters
Move points 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the true paper corners. Do not place them on a table edge or shadow.
- Pick a preset that matches the document
Keep colour where a photograph, coloured seal or stamp matters. Use grayscale for ordinary printed pages.
- Check the cleaned preview at full size
Read the smallest number and compare the page with the original. A bright page is not useful if one required field disappears.

QUALITY LIMITS
Sharpening is not the same as recovering lost text
A common mistake is moving the sharpening slider to 100 because the source looks blurred. Sharpening works by increasing local edge contrast. If the camera never captured the shape of a digit, the tool has no correct detail to recover. Very strong sharpening can create dark halos around letters and make compression noise look like ink.
Use a moderate setting first. If a roll number, registration number or date is still doubtful, take the photo again in better light. Never guess a character from a processed preview. Take a cleaner document photo before editing
The easiest way to get a sharp result is to reduce the work the cleaner has to do. Place the paper on a plain surface that contrasts with it. Stand near soft daylight, but avoid direct sunlight. Hold the phone parallel to the page and leave a small border around all four sides. Tap the text area on the phone screen so the camera focuses on the document.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Why the cleaned document may still look wrong
The page looks stretched
One or more corner points were placed in the wrong order or away from the paper corner. Return to Corner editor, use Auto-detect corners and adjust all four points manually.
A stamp or pale handwriting disappeared
Switch from Black & white to Clean color or Soft clean. Reduce shadow removal and contrast. Pale ink needs more tonal detail than ordinary printed black text.
The result has dark outlines around letters
Text sharpening is too strong. Reduce the slider and process again. A moderate sharpness value usually looks more natural when the output is later compressed.
The browser becomes slow
Select the 1.5 MP or 3 MP output option and close unnecessary tabs. Large phone photos contain millions of pixels, and perspective correction must calculate a new position for every output pixel.

Automatic detection works best when a light paper lies on a darker plain background. Patterned surfaces, cropped corners, white tables and strong glare can confuse it. Drag the points manually before cleaning.
Should I download the cleaned document as JPG or PNG?
JPG normally creates a smaller photo file and is suitable for most upload forms. PNG keeps pixel data without JPG compression but can be much larger. Follow the portal's accepted format and size rule.
Can I use the cleaned image for a government application?
Only if it matches the official portal's format, size, content and readability rules. This independent tool cannot approve a document. Compare the output with the original before submission.
Why is the output smaller than my original phone photo?
The selected output-detail limit can reduce pixel dimensions, and JPG export compresses image data. Choose 5 MP or 8 MP when fine detail matters and the destination portal allows a larger file.
