UGC NET June 2026 Re-Exam Dates Out: English, Commerce & Sociology Papers on September 9–10

The National Testing Agency has decided to conduct the UGC NET June 2026 examination again for English, Commerce and Sociology after a committee found serious problems in the original question papers. English and Commerce will be held on 9 September 2026, while Sociology will be held on 10 September 2026.

Candidates of these three subjects will not have to pay an additional examination fee. However, the examination city, exact centre and re-exam admit-card details have not yet been announced. NTA has said these details will be notified separately on the official UGC NET website.

This is a re-conduct, not merely another answer-key correction. NTA's committee concluded that the extent of the problems in these three papers could not be properly handled simply by dropping a few disputed questions after the answer-key challenge process. That is why fresh examinations have been ordered.

Why Is NTA Conducting English, Commerce and Sociology Again?

Students had raised complaints about several problems in the original June 2026 papers. NTA formed a committee to examine those complaints instead of treating every objection as a normal answer-key dispute.

The committee found problems across all three affected subjects. These were not limited to one wrong option or one spelling mistake.

Factual errors Questions and academic references contained factual problems that could affect how a candidate understood or answered them.

Language and translation problems The review found translation, grammatical and wording errors that went beyond normal minor printing issues.

Names and book titles Misspelt names of well-known scholars and garbled book titles were among the issues identified during the review.

Question wording Problems were found in question stems, punctuation and use of non-standard terms for established concepts.

Grammar agreement Gender and number agreement errors were also part of the defects noted by the committee.

Previously administered questions The committee also found repetition of a significant number of questions that had appeared in earlier examinations.

Why did NTA not simply remove the wrong questions?

Dropping one or two defective questions can sometimes solve a normal answer-key issue. Here, the committee found problems spread across wording, facts, translation and repeated questions.

NTA therefore concluded that papers carrying defects of this extent did not meet the standard of a fair and error-free examination. A full re-conduct was chosen for the three affected subjects.

Who Has to Appear for the UGC NET Re-Exam?

The September re-conduct applies to the three affected subject papers: English, Commerce and Sociology. If you appeared in one of these UGC NET June 2026 subjects, the September schedule is the update that matters to you.

UGC NET Re-Exam Admit Card 2026: Is It Released Yet?

As of 23 August 2026, NTA has announced the re-examination schedule but has not announced a specific release date for the fresh city intimation, examination centre or admit card for these September papers.

Current Status Awaiting New Update

This distinction is important because many students still have their old June examination admit card. Do not assume that the old centre, old reporting details or old call letter automatically apply to the September re-exam.

Do not travel using only your old June admit card details. NTA has specifically said that city, centre and admit-card information for the re-conduct will be notified separately. Wait for the fresh official update and follow the document issued for the September examination.

Do Candidates Have to Pay the UGC NET Exam Fee Again?

What Happens to the Other 84 UGC NET Subjects?

The June 2026 UGC NET examination was originally conducted across 87 subjects. The fresh-exam decision concerns only English, Commerce and Sociology.

Will English, Commerce and Sociology Candidates Lose Seats Because of the Re-Exam?

NTA has included a protection for the affected subjects.

For determining Assistant Professor eligibility in English, Commerce and Sociology, the number of qualifying candidates will be based on 6% of the candidates who appeared in the June examination or the re-test, whichever number is higher.

NTA has also stated that the numbers already allocated for these subjects will not be reduced because of the re-conduct.

This is a useful detail because students may worry that a second examination automatically means fewer qualification opportunities. The notice is designed to prevent the re-conduct itself from reducing the already allocated numbers.

Has the UGC NET Syllabus or Exam Pattern Changed for the Re-Exam?

The re-conduct notice is about fresh examination dates and defective question papers. It does not announce a new syllabus or a completely different UGC NET structure for these three subjects.

So do not start following a random “new re-exam syllabus” PDF unless NTA actually publishes such a change. Continue preparing the official UGC NET Paper 1 and your subject-specific Paper 2 syllabus, while checking the official website for any later examination instructions.

What Should English, Commerce and Sociology Candidates Do Now?

A re-exam can feel frustrating because candidates had already spent months preparing and have already sat for the June paper. But you are not starting from zero. The useful approach now is to treat the remaining days as a focused revision window rather than rebuilding the full syllabus.

First: write down the correct date and shift English and Commerce are both on 9 September, but their timings are completely different. Sociology is on 10 September.

Second: revise your June error log Focus on concepts where you were already uncertain in the first attempt rather than blindly rewatching complete courses.

Third: keep Paper 1 active Students often put all their attention on Paper 2 after hearing about a subject re-exam. Paper 1 still contributes to the aggregate result.

Fourth: revise Paper 2 through units and PYQs Use the official syllabus as your boundary. Do not let viral claims about repeated questions push you into memorising only old papers.

Fifth: wait for the fresh city and admit-card notice Check the official portal periodically, but there is no need to refresh it every hour before NTA issues a new notice.

A Better Re-Exam Strategy for Each Subject

English Revise literary theory, criticism, periods, major authors and text-author associations, but do not rely only on memory lists. Keep Paper 1 practice active alongside Paper 2.

Commerce Divide Paper 2 between numerical areas such as Accounting, Finance and Statistics and theory-heavy units such as Management, Marketing, Law and HRM.

Sociology Recheck thinkers, theories, research methods, institutions and Indian sociology with proper concept connections instead of memorising isolated scholar-name pairs.
